Importance of Jury Service

Trial by jury is one of the most important rights enjoyed by Americans and is a cornerstone of our justice system.  It is a right guaranteed by both the United States Constitution and the Ohio Constitution.

Being called to serve as a juror is one of the most significant civic duties you may ever perform.  Your participation helps ensure that justice is carried out fairly and impartially.

At the Findlay Municipal Court, jury trials typically last only one (1) day.

Jury Summons / Questionnaire

Each prospective juror will receive a jury summons at the beginning of his or her service.  The summons will contain instructions for accessing the Jury Portal.

Jurors are to log into the Jury Portal within 5 days of receiving the summons and complete the following:

  • Update your contact information
  • Complete a juror questionnaire

Through the portal, you can also:

  • Check the status of your jury service
  • Communicate directly with the Jury Clerk
  • Submit requests to be excused or deferred (supporting documentation may be required)

Only the Judge has the authority to excuse you from jury service.

If you are unable to use the Jury Portal for any reason, please contact the Jury Clerk at 419-429-7361 for assistance.

Reporting for Jury Duty

On occasion, trials may be resolved before the scheduled hearing date.  To avoid an unnecessary trip to court, please check the jury portal or call the jury line at 419-581-5573 after 5:00 PM on the evening before your report date to confirm whether you need to appear for jury duty.

If you are required to report, Jurors should report at 8:45 a.m. to the Findlay Municipal Court.

Attached to your jury summons is a parking permit. Please place the permit so it’s visible in the front window of your car.

Upon arrival, please report to Room 206 and check in with the Jury Clerk.  You will then be directed to the appropriate location to wait until jury selection begins.

If you are selected to serve as a juror, please note the following:

  • The Judge will excuse you for a lunch break, which generally lasts one hour. (Lunch is not provided. You may bring your own or visit a nearby eatery.)
  • You will have comfort breaks during the trial.
  • The court provides water, coffee and soft drinks for jurors.
